The Crown Cup Dubai 2016 Ballroom Dance Championship
More than 99 couples from different dance schools all over the world took up the challenged to be the best in the world at the largest ballroom dance championship in UAE. Performing Salsa, Argentine Tango, Rumba, Cha-cha-cha, Jive, Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Foxtrot and other Standard and Latin American dances in competition and in special showcases, it was a competition for our dance studio to shine, and to see who would be crowned the best of the best!
The Crown Cup Ballroom Dancing Series
Started in 2014, the 2016 Crown Cup was the third annual Pro-Am Dance Competition in Dubai, and one of the biggest Dance Sport events in UAE. Traditionally taking place in mid February, it is part of the Crown Cup Competition series that also takes place in Vilnius (Lithuania) and Macao (China).
One of the special features of this ballroom dancing championship is the Pro-Am dance competition. Pro/Am means that the dancing couple consists of two partners (a professional and an amateur):
- "Professional" dancer - experienced professional dancer, competitive dancer in various dance championships, often a dance teacher, instructor and/or choreographer.
- "Amateur" dancer - is a less experienced, non-professional dancer of various levels, but a student who is still in the process of learning dance sport.
The Pro-Am approach helps the amateur to progress more quickly than if they had a non-professional partner, and makes the whole performance a much more exciting spectacle to watch.
The Program
The championship lasted for 2 days, 12th and 13th February 2016, and took place at Kempinski Hotel Ajman with the following schedule:
Day 1
- Pro/Am competition Single and Multi-Dances Standard, Latin, American Smooth, American Rhythm, Argentine Tango Salon, Argentine Tango Free style, Student/Student competition, Team Match and Pro/Am Showcases.
- Welcome Dinner “Arabian Night”.
Day 2

The results achieved by our dance studio, Dance For You
It’s the second time our dance school has taken part in this event (read more about the Crown Cup Dubai 2015 on our website), but in 2016 we absolutely scored a match-winning homerun!
- First place in the "World Team Match".
- All participants representing our dance studio performed exceptionally well and were all awarded in within the top four places (1st - 4th places).
- Top teacher award for the "Leading Professional Teacher" for our own Konstantine…
However, first things first, this competition followed our dance studios participation in the World Championship in Paris in December 2015, so we had just two months to perfect new routines, choreographies and polish our dancing. Unlike Paris, having such competition on our “home dance floor”, gave us some benefits. It’s much easier to participate and perform well because there are no time constraints, financial travel expenses and jet lag etc. and who doesn’t love to perform in front of the home crowd!
This year our team was the largest of all the dance schools represented at the championship. We had over 20 members (adult and child students) who joined forces with our dance teachers and instructors in joint couples to compete as Pro-Am couples. It was a very successful challenge for our dance studio. We are very proud of our students who achieved great results, personal best performances and competed hard with some serious rivals from both local and foreign dance schools!
For us it is a demonstration of the effectiveness of our educational program and the strong quality of our dance lessons and instructors. After all, this championship is not just a contest between dancers, but is also a contest among schools to find out which Dance studio is the best dance studio in Dubai , we are proud to say that now we know!
